PostHog pricing explained: what you'll pay each month, with a calculator
PostHog costs nothing to start and then follows your usage. There is no base fee and no per-seat charge: each product has a free monthly allowance (1,000,000 analytics events, 5,000 session recordings, 1,000,000 feature flag requests) and a price per unit above it. For analytics events, session recordings, feature flags and surveys that price falls as volume rises; the newer AI products (PostHog AI, Replay vision, Inbox and Desktop) are listed at fixed or at-cost rates. This page sets out every allowance and price from PostHog's own pricing page, gives you a calculator, and works three examples through. Prices checked on 22 October 2026.
TL;DR
- PostHog has no base fee. Every product has a free monthly allowance, then you pay per unit.
- Free each month: 1,000,000 analytics events, 5,000 recordings, 1,000,000 feature flag requests.
- For analytics events, recordings, feature flags and surveys, the per-unit price falls as volume rises; the calculator below estimates those charges from your monthly volumes.
- Prices read from PostHog's own pricing page on 22 October 2026.
Stickybeak is live analytics for every site you own, set up with one script tag. It is in early access, with a free plan and paid plans from US$20 a month.
Get early accessThe short answer
How much does PostHog cost? On PostHog's pricing page the paid plan has a $0 a month base price, and you pay for what you use above each product's free tier. The free tier resets every month, needs no credit card, and covers 1,000,000 events, 5,000 recordings and 1,000,000 feature flag requests among others. All prices are in US dollars, excluding taxes.
- A small site or early product: often $0, because most of it fits inside the free allowances.
- A product with a few million events, some recordings and flags: low hundreds of dollars a month (the SaaS example below comes to $149.30).
- Heavy use: the bill follows volume, and the per-unit price steps down as you pass each tier. Use the calculator for your own numbers.
PostHog pricing calculator
Enter your monthly volumes. It prices events, recordings, feature flag requests and survey responses using the tables further down this page, and leaves out the add-ons and the platform packages. We apply each rate only to the units inside its band, which is how a banded table normally reads; PostHog's page lists the bands without saying so in words, so confirm your figure in PostHog's own calculator before you budget around it.

What each product gives you free, and the first price above it
Copied from posthog.com/pricing on 22 October 2026. The unit is what PostHog counts: an event is any data point sent to PostHog (a pageview, click, custom event or API call), a recording is one captured session, and a request is a billable feature flag request. Individual flag checks do not necessarily equal billed requests: PostHog's billing guidance counts frontend requests and has separate rules for local evaluation polling, so estimate the request count from that guidance.

The tiers for events, recordings and feature flags
Product analytics: price per event
| Events in the month | Price per event |

| 1,000,001 to 2,000,000 | $0.00005 |

| 100,000,001 to 250,000,000 | $0.000015 |
| Above 250,000,000 | $0.000009 |
Session replay: price per recording
| Recordings in the month | Price per recording |
|---|---|

| 5,001 to 15,000 | $0.005 |
| 15,001 to 50,000 | $0.0035 |
| 50,001 to 150,000 | $0.002 |
| 150,001 to 500,000 | $0.0017 |
| Above 500,000 | $0.0015 |
Feature flags and experiments: price per request
| Requests in the month | Price per request |
|---|---|
| First 1,000,000 | Free |
| 1,000,001 to 2,000,000 | $0.0001 |
| 2,000,001 to 10,000,000 | $0.000045 |
| 10,000,001 to 50,000,000 | $0.000025 |
| Above 50,000,000 | $0.00001 |
Surveys have their own bands (1,500 free responses, then $0.1, $0.035, $0.015 and $0.01 as volume rises), which the calculator includes.
What product analytics costs at a glance
Events only, using the bands above with each rate applied to the events inside its band. Recordings and flags are extra.
| Events a month | Estimated cost |
|---|---|
| 1,000,000 | $0 |
| 2,000,000 | $50.00 |
| 5,000,000 | $152.90 |
| 10,000,000 | $324.40 |
| 15,000,000 | $495.90 |
| 25,000,000 | $790.90 |
| 50,000,000 | $1,528.40 |
The cost per event keeps falling (the 50 million row works out at about $0.00003 an event including the free million, against $0.00005 for events in the first paid band), but the total keeps rising, so your volume decides the bill.
Three worked examples
The volumes are our assumptions, chosen to show the sums, not PostHog's or anyone's averages. Change them in the calculator.
| Site | Monthly volumes assumed | Working | PostHog a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small SaaS | 3,000,000 events, 8,000 recordings, 1,500,000 flag requests | Events $50 + $34.30. Recordings 3,000 over the free 5,000 at $0.005 = $15. Flags 500,000 over at $0.0001 = $50. | $149.30 |
| Content site | 800,000 events (about 500,000 pageviews plus some clicks), no recordings | Inside the free 1,000,000 events. | $0 |
| Site with 1M pageviews | 2,500,000 events, 10,000 recordings | Events $50 + $17.15. Recordings 5,000 over the free 5,000 at $0.005 = $25. | $92.15 |
Two things move these figures. First, how many events each visit produces: PostHog counts any data point, so autocapture of clicks and custom events lift the total above your pageview count. Second, which events you send as identified, because PostHog lists identified events as an add-on with their own tiers (the first 1,000,000 free, then $0.000198 per event up to 2,000,000).
Plans, packages and discounts
- Free plan: no credit card, 1 project, 1 year of events and metadata retention, community support.
- Paid plan (pay as you go): $0 a month base price, 6 projects, 7 years of events and metadata retention, email support.
- Other retention: the 1-year and 7-year figures cover events and metadata. Session recordings have their own retention period, and logs are kept 14 days by default; check PostHog's pricing page for the current periods.
- Seats: no per-seat charges.
- Platform packages: Boost at $250 a month, Scale at $750 a month and Enterprise at $2000 a month, each adding collaboration, support and security features on top of usage.
- Discounts: annual credit commitments of $25,000 or more get 20% or more; startups can apply for $50,000 in free credits for 12 months if they are under 2 years old and have raised under $5M; nonprofits get 15% off credit purchases below $25k. PostHog lists the terms on its pricing page.
What self-hosting PostHog costs
The open-source version costs no licence fee, but the bill moves to your servers and your time. PostHog's self-hosting docs say you run or buy your own infrastructure, manage deployments and deal with scaling yourself, call the open-source deployment officially unsupported, and say PostHog Cloud is usually far cheaper than doing it yourself because infrastructure is shared. They also ask whether you expect more than 300,000 events, 1,000 recordings or 300,000 flag API calls on a hobby instance, and whether you will pass 1,000,000 events or 5,000 recordings a month, which are the thresholds where they point you at Cloud. We have no verified figure for server costs, which depend on your provider and volume, so we give none.
When a simpler analytics tool is enough
PostHog is a product analytics suite: funnels, retention, replays, flags, experiments, surveys. Our PostHog alternatives guide sorts replacements by the job you use it for. If you need traffic and revenue reports across several sites, compare those reports and their cost at your monthly usage. A web analytics tool that prices by pageviews gives a flat price per plan.
Mitch's take (he made Stickybeak)
This bit is opinion, so take it as that. I've used PostHog and found it confusing to work with. It's a big, capable product, but its pricing page lists 22 separately priced products and add-ons, each with its own free allowance and its own price bands, and working out a monthly bill took a calculator. Getting a plain answer to "who's on my sites and what sold" meant setting up events and dashboards first. If your team lives in funnels, flags and experiments, that learning curve pays for itself. If you just want to watch your sites and see where the money came from, it's a lot of tool.
Stickybeak is one such option, and it is not a PostHog replacement for product analytics: it does not list session recordings, feature flags or experiments. It is live analytics for every site you own, with revenue tied to the channel it came from. Its pricing counts pageviews from real people across all your sites, never sites or bots, at one flat price per plan:
| Plan | Price | Pageviews a month |
|---|---|---|
| Side project | Free | Up to 10k |
| Solo | $20 a month | Up to 500k |
| Team | $200 a month | Up to 10M |
| Agency | $2,000 a month | Up to 100M |
Prices are in US dollars; see the pricing page for what each plan includes. The units differ (PostHog counts events, Stickybeak counts pageviews), so compare on your own traffic, not these tables. For the content site above, PostHog is $0 where Stickybeak's Solo plan is $20, and if you only need a free tier, PostHog's is the larger. Stickybeak is in early access. Our Google Analytics alternatives guide and the Google Analytics pricing guide cover the other tools people weigh, and analytics for multiple websites explains how several sites share a workspace.
Questions
How much does PostHog cost?
PostHog's pricing page lists a paid plan with a $0 a month base price, and you pay only for usage above each product's free monthly allowance. Product analytics is free for the first 1,000,000 events a month, session replay for the first 5,000 recordings and feature flags for the first 1,000,000 requests. All prices are in US dollars, excluding taxes.
Is PostHog free?
Yes, up to the allowances. PostHog's pricing page says every product has a free tier with no credit card required, and the free tier resets every month. The free plan is limited to 1 project and 1 year of events and metadata retention; the paid plan lists 6 projects and 7 years. Recordings and logs have their own, separate retention periods.
How much does PostHog cost per event?
After the first 1,000,000 free events a month, PostHog lists $0.00005 per event from 1,000,001 to 2,000,000, then $0.0000343 from 2,000,001 to 15,000,000, and lower rates above that. That is $50 for the 1,000,000 events between 1 and 2 million.
Does PostHog charge per user or per seat?
No. PostHog's pricing page says there are no per-seat charges and your whole team can use PostHog. Cost follows usage: events, recordings, flag requests and so on.
Is Web Analytics in PostHog free?
Web Analytics is included with Product Analytics at no extra cost, according to PostHog's pricing page. The pageviews it counts are events, so they use the same 1,000,000 free events and the same per-event prices.
Does PostHog have a pricing calculator?
Yes, PostHog has an interactive calculator on its pricing page. The calculator on this page covers events, recordings, flag requests and survey responses from the prices PostHog lists, so you can try volumes quickly. Check the final figure against PostHog's own calculator.
How much does self-hosted PostHog cost?
PostHog's self-hosting docs say you run or purchase your own infrastructure and handle scaling yourself, and that PostHog Cloud is usually far cheaper than doing it yourself. The docs call the open-source deployment officially unsupported. The server costs depend on your provider and volume, so we give no figure.
Does PostHog charge extra for identified events?
PostHog lists identified events as an add-on to product analytics, with its own tiers: the first 1,000,000 are free, then $0.000198 per event from 1,000,001 to 2,000,000, falling at higher volumes. Check which events you send as identified before you estimate.
What does Stickybeak cost?
Stickybeak has a free plan for up to 10k pageviews a month. Paid plans are $20 a month up to 500k pageviews, $200 a month up to 10M and $2,000 a month up to 100M, each at one flat price. The pricing page lists every plan.
