Plausible alternatives: what else to consider, with prices

The usual reasons to look past Plausible are a free plan, more sites on one plan, a lower price at high traffic, or revenue by source. Fathom, Simple Analytics, Umami and Stickybeak each cover one or more of those.

TL;DR

  • Plausible lists no free cloud plan, one site on Starter and $9 a month at 10k pageviews, so people look elsewhere for a free plan, more sites or a lower price at high traffic.
  • Closest like-for-like tools: Fathom (at least 50 sites per plan), Simple Analytics (free plan with a badge) and Umami (free cloud Hobby plan, free self-hosting).
  • Stickybeak suits owners of several sites who want revenue by source. It is in early access and does not claim to match Plausible on price at high traffic.

Stickybeak is live analytics for every site you own, set up with one script tag. It is in early access, with a free plan and paid plans from US$20 a month.

Which alternative fits which reason

Plausible's home page lists a Starter plan at $9 a month for 10k pageviews (one site), Growth at $14 (up to 3 sites) and Business at $19 (up to 10 sites), a 30-day trial with no card, and no free plan. It says it is made and hosted in the EU and has no cookies. If that fits, stay: our Plausible pricing guide has every tier. If one of these is your reason, look here.

The alternatives, one by one

Fathom

Fathom starts at $15 a month for up to 100,000 pageviews. Its 10-million tier costs $200, with higher-volume plans available. Every plan lists at least 50 sites, with packs of 50 more at $10 a month, and the page says no cookie banners are required. The trial is 7 days and needs a card. Its EU data isolation page says EU traffic is processed in the EU.

Simple Analytics

Simple Analytics offers a free plan for hobby sites (5 websites, 1 user) with unlimited pageviews under a fair use policy, on the condition that you show its badge. The Self-serve plan is $20 a month and scales with pageviews, with two months free on annual billing. The page says it uses no cookies and stores data in the EU. We cover it in the Simple Analytics review.

Umami

Umami says it is open source and can be self-hosted for free. Its cloud Hobby plan is free for 100K events and one website. Pro is $20 a month for 1 million events and up to 20 websites, with a 14-day trial; session replays and heatmaps appear on the $200 Business plan. Some cloud features, such as email reports and the streaming API, are not available self-hosted. Read more in our Umami guide.

Self-hosted Plausible

Plausible says Community Edition is free to self-host under the AGPLv3 and that you never pay it fees, but support is community only and releases come twice a year. It lists funnel analysis, user journeys, ecommerce revenue goals, SSO and the sites API as cloud only. You pay for the server and the upkeep.

Stickybeak

Stickybeak is our product. It shows every site you own on one live screen and ties revenue to the channel, campaign or ?ref= code it came from. Plans count pageviews from real people across all your sites at one flat price: free up to 10k a month, $20 up to 500k, $200 up to 10M. It is in early access. At high traffic it can cost more than Plausible or Fathom, and its feature list has no session replay, feature flags or experiments. Switching from Plausible, Fathom, DataFast or Simple Analytics earns three months free (send your last invoice); the pricing page has the terms.

How to choose

Questions

What is the best alternative to Plausible?

It depends on why you are leaving. Fathom lists at least 50 sites on every plan. Simple Analytics and Umami list free plans. Umami and Plausible both say they can be self-hosted. Stickybeak shows every site on one live screen with revenue by source.

Is there a free alternative to Plausible?

Yes. Simple Analytics lists a free plan (5 websites, 1 user, a badge required). Umami lists a free cloud Hobby plan with up to 100K events a month and says it is open source and can be self-hosted for free. Stickybeak has a free plan for up to 10k pageviews a month. Plausible's pricing page lists a 30-day trial and no free plan.

Can I self-host instead of paying for Plausible?

Yes. Plausible says its Community Edition is free to self-host and open source under AGPLv3, with community support only and some features, such as funnels and revenue goals, unavailable. Umami also says it can be self-hosted for free.

What is a cheaper alternative to Plausible?

At low traffic the free plans of Simple Analytics, Umami and Stickybeak cost nothing. At 100,000 pageviews Fathom lists $15 a month, and its price at 1,000,000 is $60 a month. Plausible's own tiers are in our Plausible pricing guide. Plausible and Fathom also count custom events against the allowance, so compare at your own traffic.

Which Plausible alternative is best for many websites?

Fathom lists at least 50 sites on every plan, and Umami Pro lists up to 20 websites. Plausible lists one site on Starter, up to 3 on Growth and up to 10 on Business. Stickybeak prices across all of your sites together and shows them on one screen.

Do Plausible alternatives use cookies?

Plausible says it has no cookies, and Simple Analytics and Fathom say the same on their pages. Stickybeak's standard script sets three first-party cookies; its cookieless script sets none. Whether you need a consent banner is a legal question for your own situation.

Is Stickybeak a Plausible alternative?

For some owners, yes: it counts visitors across all your sites and ties revenue to the channel it came from. It is in early access. It costs more than Plausible at high traffic on the plans each lists, so it fits best if you run several sites or care about revenue by source.
