Google Tag Manager
Google Tag Manager analytics with Stickybeak tracks live visitors and goals from your existing container in about 10 minutes. It is a lighter alternative to Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager, with goals and revenue by channel.
Add the script
Create a tag
Go to Tags → New → Tag Configuration → Custom HTML and paste:
<script defer data-site="YOUR_SITE_ID" data-domain="example.com" src="https://app.usestickybeak.com/_cfw/s.js" ></script>Choose a trigger
Set Triggering → Initialization - All Pages. All Pages also works but fires later.
Publish
Use Preview with Tag Assistant, then choose Submit → Publish and Create Version → Publish.
Check it's working
The tag reaches visitors only after publishing. The wizard may miss GTM-injected tags, so verify First visitor received with Check it's working.
Track goals
Google Tag Manager conversion tracking
Create another Custom HTML tag and attach a form, click or dataLayer trigger:
<script>
window.stickybeak = window.stickybeak || function () { (window.stickybeak.q = window.stickybeak.q || []).push(arguments); };
window.stickybeak("newsletter_signup", { form: "footer" });
</script>The queue makes tag order safe. See Custom goals.
Track purchases
On your purchase trigger, use GTM variables from your own data layer:
<script>
window.stickybeak = window.stickybeak || function () { (window.stickybeak.q = window.stickybeak.q || []).push(arguments); };
window.stickybeak("purchase", {
revenue: "{{Order Total}}",
currency: "{{Currency}}",
order_id: "{{Order ID}}"
});
</script>Replace the example variable names with yours. See Revenue.
Page changes
Do not use a History Change trigger. Stickybeak records pushState and back/forward paths; hash-only changes are not pageviews.
Consent and privacy
To hold the tag for consent, open Advanced Settings → Consent Settings, require additional consent, and add analytics_storage. See Consent and cookie banners.
If it isn't working
- Publish the container version after previewing.
- Keep
data-siteanddata-domainon the script element. - Tag blockers can block GTM and Stickybeak together.
