Visitors and visits

The Visitors panel on a site's page lists recent visits, newest first. Open one to see the whole visit: each page, how long and how far down it was read, the clicks and goals on the way, and who the visitor is.

Stickybeak's visitor list: one row per visit with the path taken, place, device and time on site.

The visitor list

  • One row per visit, with the pages in order across the row, their place, device and time on site.
  • Look-alike visits within 15 minutes (the same page pattern, source, country, device, network and length) fold into one row with a count. Visits that converted are never folded. Switch grouping off with the toggle beside the heading.
  • Likely and possible bots carry a mark; hover it for the reasons. See Likely and possible bots.
  • Filters on the page apply to the list, so you can see only visitors from one channel, country or landing page.
  • Show older visitors loads the next 100.

An opened visit

Click a row and the visit opens under it.

One opened visit in Stickybeak: each page in order with how far down it was read and how long, nav clicks, goals and the purchase, beside who the visitor is and how they found the site.
PartWhat it shows
TimelineEach page in order with the time it was opened, how far down it was read, where the screen stayed longest and the time on the page. Nav clicks, goals and purchases sit where they happened, and the last line says how the visit ended.
WhoA generated name and face, their city, device and browser.
Customer or likely to buyWhat a customer spent, or for anyone else how likely people like them are to buy compared with the average visitor, and what that's worth.
This visitLanding and last page, time on site, pages, and whether the script saw anyone interact.
How they found youChannel and source, referrer, campaign tags and whether it was an ad click.
Who, in detailFirst visit or returning, their last visit, other visits in the period, place, device, network and the bot verdict.

Names and faces

Names like "peachy emu" and their faces are generated from the visitor's random id, so the same visitor keeps the same name. They aren't based on anything about the person.

The buying score

The score compares the visitor with the site's last 30 days: how often people with the same channel, landing page, country and device bought, whether they've been before, and how many pages they've read. Small groups lean on the site's average, so a rare country doesn't swing it. The dollar value is that chance times what a paying visitor spends on average. Cookieless visits get the likelihood alone.

Scroll depth

The script splits each page into ten bands. Each second the tab is visible, the band in the middle of the screen gets a tick; the furthest point that has come onto the screen is the depth. The furthest heading (h1 to h3) that came well onto the screen names where they got to.

Hover a page's read bar for its depth, the heading reached, where they spent longest and the active seconds. Hover a row in the Pages breakdown to see how that page is read on average. Scroll depth needs no setup and works with both scripts.

Date ranges

Besides the preset periods, the calendar beside them picks any single day, steps day by day, or selects a custom range. Ranges that start more than 30 days ago use daily rollups, so filters don't apply there and the visitor list shows the latest 30 days.

Cookieless visits

With the cookieless script, an opened visit has everything except history: a visitor can't be recognised on another day, so there's no last visit or other visits.
